The look of surprise that flickered over his face drew her own eyebrows up. Had he really thought that she’d be able to leave? She almost scoffed, she was pretty sure she’d never be strong enough to do that. He was the closest thing she’d ever had to stability, to family, to love. How in the hell would she ever be able to willingly walk away from him? That was like asking her to stop breathing.

Miles’ hand dropped from her shoulder as he retreated from the hallway, his eyes not leaving her until he rounded the corner. In a practiced motion, she freed her gun from it’s holster and held it out, barrel pointed down. “So I’m not a ‘threat’ when whoever’s coming gets here.” She knew there was only one reason Miles and the other would bail so fast, and that was if they were about to get massively busted.

She watched the arrow twirling through his fingers and flashed him a tense half-smile. “You still do that?” She asked in surprise. She remembered him doing that a lot when he was thinking about things back at the circus.

Skye handed her friend the gun, and for a moment Clint worried again that this guy would do something risky. Before he could ever stop him. And Clint wasn’t even worried about this guy hurting him, but Skye getting caught in the middle.

But she seemed to know what she was doing as she walked to him, a small smile on her face that felt a little familiar when he saw it, even if it was too rigid, not as easy going as he once remembered it to be. But it was still that same smile that he would look forward to seeing every morning when he woke up and they were still at the circus. And she was still the same girl.

And he was pretty sure he was still the same guy.

Clint looked down to the arrow in his hand and he laughed a little, feeling the easiest he had the whole day. I — Yeah. Old habits die hard, I guess, right?he said, twirling the arrow again as he looked at Skye, studying her, taking her all in. He stopped twirling his arrow and held his hand out for her, watching her carefully. Come on. There’s… There’s a way out in the back.
